Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the Eastern Region in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($15,477million or 19.7%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($7,638million or 9.7%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($7,605million or 9.7%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $30,719 million in total or 39.2% of the total local sales by total industry in the the Eastern Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Victoria accounted for 24.2% in Construction; 7.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 9.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between local sales by industries of the Eastern Region and Victoria were:

  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Construction (19.7% compared to 24.2%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Health Care and Social Assistance (9.7% compared to 7.8%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Retail Trade (6.2% compared to 5.0%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Manufacturing (8.4% compared to 7.4%)

The total local sales by industry in the Eastern Region $increased by 3,061 million between 2018/19 and 2023/24.

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2018/19 and 2023/24 in the Eastern Region were for:

  • Construction (-$2,038 million)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$1,544 million)
  • Manufacturing (-$1,054 million)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$850 million)
