The City of Hobart, located on the west back of the River Derwent is the capital of Tasmania. The City is bounded to the south and south/west by Kingborough Council and to the west and northwest by Glenorchy City.

Name Origin

The City of Hobart is named for Named Hobart Town after Robert Hobart, fourth Earl of Buckinghamshire, Secretary of State for the colonies.

The traditional owners of Hobart, orginially known as nipaluna, are the Muwinina people.
