Output by industry is a gross measure of the total sales of each industry sector in the Town of Cambridge. It does not measure how productive each industry sector is at producing this output - which is measured by value added.
By comparing the output of each industry sector to a regional benchmark, you can clearly see the structure of the Town of Cambridge’s economy. This can be done by directly comparing the percentage contribution of each industry to the total output, relative to the benchmark, or by using a location quotient, where a number greater than one indicates a high concentration of that industry and less than one indicates a lower concentration.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the output by industry sectors in the Town of Cambridge in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance ($954 million or 24.9%)
- Construction ($546 million or 14.3%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($531 million or 13.9%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $2,031 million in total or 53.1% of the total output by total industry in the the Town of Cambridge.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Western Australia accounted for 4.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.8% in Construction and 4.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.
The major differences between output by industries of the Town of Cambridge and Western Australia were:
- A smaller percentage of output by Mining (2.2% compared to 37.3%)
