Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the RDA MBSC in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($13,827 million or 31.2%)
- Public Administration and Safety ($4,933 million or 11.1%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($3,376 million or 7.6%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $22,136 million in total or 50.0% of the total imports by industry in the the RDA MBSC.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 33.6% in Manufacturing; 5.6% in Public Administration and Safety and 7.8% in Financial and Insurance Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the RDA MBSC and Queensland were:
- A larger percentage of total imports by Public Administration and Safety (11.1% compared to 5.6%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Mining (4.0% compared to 9.4%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (31.2% compared to 33.6%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (6.4% compared to 4.4%)
Emerging groups
The total total imports by industry in the RDA MBSC increased by $7,554 million between 2018/19 and 2023/24.
The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2018/19 and 2023/24 in the RDA MBSC were for:
- Manufacturing (+$2,420 million)
- Public Administration and Safety (+$854 million)
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (+$756 million)
- Financial and Insurance Services (+$682 million)
