In the RDA MBSC, Manufacturing had the largest total exports by industry, generating $4,034 million in 2023/24.

Exports by industry are sales of goods and services to non-resident households, businesses and other organisations, outside the RDA MBSC boundaries. Exports (domestic) include all exports from the area to other parts of Australia. Exports (international) includes all exports from the Region to countries outside Australia.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the RDA MBSC in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing (4,034 million or 23.3%)
  • Retail Trade (1,459 million or 8.4%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,308 million or 7.5%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 6,801 million in total or 39.2% of the total exports by industry in the the RDA MBSC.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 15.5% in Manufacturing; 2.2% in Retail Trade and 3.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of the RDA MBSC and Queensland were:

  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Mining (5.8% compared to 35.4%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (23.3% compared to 15.5%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Retail Trade (8.4% compared to 2.2%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Financial and Insurance Services (7.3% compared to 2.7%)

The total total exports by industry in the RDA MBSC $increased by 4,944 million between 2018/19 and 2023/24.

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2018/19 and 2023/24 in the RDA MBSC were for:

  • Manufacturing (+$1,029 million)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$769 million)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+$602 million)
  • Retail Trade (+$519 million)
