In the South East Queensland, Manufacturing had the largest total exports by industry, generating $38,431 million in 2023/24.

Exports by industry are sales of goods and services to non-resident households, businesses and other organisations, outside the South East Queensland boundaries. Exports (domestic) include all exports from the area to other parts of Australia. Exports (international) includes all exports from the Region to countries outside Australia.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in the South East Queensland in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing (38,431 million or 23.0%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (20,710 million or 12.4%)
  • Public Administration and Safety (14,012 million or 8.4%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 73,153 million in total or 43.8% of the total exports by industry in the the South East Queensland.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 15.5% in Manufacturing; 8.0% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing and 5.3% in Public Administration and Safety.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of the South East Queensland and Queensland were:

  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Mining (5.4% compared to 35.4%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (23.0% compared to 15.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (2.7% compared to 7.1%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (12.4% compared to 8.0%)

Emerging groups

The total total exports by industry in the South East Queensland $increased by 13,223 million between 2018/19 and 2023/24.

The largest changes in the total exports by industries between 2018/19 and 2023/24 in the South East Queensland were for:

  • Public Administration and Safety (+$4,456 million)
  • Manufacturing (+$3,682 million)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$3,055 million)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$2,729 million)
